How many tanks?

This is a brief applet to explore the German Tank Problem or "How many tanks?" in statistics class. In TPS4e, this is used to introduce the idea of sampling distributions.

In class, I cut up N pieces of paper and the class took five samples of seven pieces without replacement in an attempt to guess the value of N. Each group of students created a statistic to estimate; the winning group was crowned, then we used GeoGebra to see if they just got lucky or if their statistic was really better.

In GeoGebra, we use the sample[] command to sample without replacement and make histograms of data to see the sampling distribution.

Here's the students' lab report.
